The Rise of the Robots: Why IT Professionals Are not Afraid?

Automation of the processes and routines has proved itself as a most logical consequence of manual job in last several years. Human labor was replaced by robots and AI in many ranges of industries. Why? Because AI processes information faster, learn quickly and accomplishes difficult tasks better. It happened to manufacturing and hospitality industries mostly. But the time for other industries will come pretty fast.

Who You Should Be Worried

Today we can find a small number of professions where people still can be sure that only human can do this kind of job. But none of them are accepting the possibility of “robot rise” that can result in serious changes within the business. People in IT community have no fear about AI automation that would kick them out from the market. However, they should be more careful.

Spiceworks research studied 196 IT engineers of an administrative level from medium to big enterprises and outcome shows that the automation implementation can make IT departments much more independent and mobile. That means that operation routine will change within some time. AI would perform better in daily routine, and therefore, IT bosses will use software instead of people. Basic tasks are for robots, while strategy, vision and complex goals are for humans.

That’s why people should worry. Because more and more tasks can go through automation process. And that’s a simple reality — not some futuristic ideas of scientists. Online bots instead of IT support engineers — why not? AI tracker of buying/selling IT assets — it can remove humans from their duties. And also we should not forget about the fact that technology is always improving itself. With the help of humans, of course. The point is that if we see the rise of AI now, we can assume that in a next decade this rise will quickly result in a serious revolution in the market. So you should not just be professional in your field — you must be sure that your job deals with decision making, strategy development, vision creation. Robots are here to make our lives easier, but there are not pros without cons: someone’s life will become more complicated.

What will automation bring to IT pros?

Some part of IT industry see no threat in automation, and maybe there must be a reason for their confidence. As a Fox Business earlier reported this year, automation will possibly replace humans on their jobs, while on the other hand it can also provide new solutions and open new opportunities in software development, robot manufacturers, and engineers. As being said, some of IT operations will be quickly changed with AI implementation on a company level.

Robotic process automation (RPA) becomes more and more advanced with every day and machine learning let them do more complicated tasks. IT workers (including developers, sure thing) know this better than anyone. A lot of developers should be not so glad about this. Traditional work models of many professions were turned upside down by software developers. They brought a new solution — and it was an evolution of working process. But evolution always come with re-volution. Just be aware.
